The Automobile Club of Southern California has provided guidance on how to reduce the extreme temperatures inside parked cars during heatwaves. On a 90-degree day, the interior of a car parked in direct sunlight can exceed 130 degrees, posing significant
risks. To combat this, the club suggests parking in shaded areas, which are increasingly available due to solar arrays in parking lots. These arrays not only provide shade but also generate electricity. Additionally, using folding windshield shades can significantly lower the temperature inside the car. Technological advancements also play a role in mitigating heat risks. Many modern vehicles are equipped with reminder systems to check the rear seat, preventing the tragic occurrence of children being left in hot cars. Nissan's Rear Seat Alert system, for instance, beeps the horn if the rear seat is not checked after the driver's door is closed. Remote start features, available in many vehicles, allow drivers to cool the car before entering by starting the air conditioning remotely.
