What's Happening?
The Monterey County Fair and Event Center is calling for nominations to honor women who have significantly contributed to agriculture in Monterey County and the Salinas Valley. This initiative is part of the 2026 Monterey County Fair, themed 'Cowboy Boots
and Coastal Roots,' and coincides with the designation of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the United Nations. Honorees will be recognized at a special reception on September 5 and featured in an agricultural exhibit during the fair. The program aims to celebrate women's roles in farming, ranching, agricultural education, technology, sustainability, and community service.
Why It's Important?
Recognizing women in agriculture highlights their vital contributions to the industry and promotes gender equality within the sector. This initiative not only acknowledges the achievements of women in agriculture but also serves to inspire future generations of female agricultural leaders. By showcasing their accomplishments, the program aims to encourage more women to pursue careers in agriculture, thereby fostering innovation and diversity in the field.
