What's Happening?
Vard Marine US, Inc., a subsidiary of Vard Group AS, has been awarded a contract to participate in the U.S. Navy's Next Generation Logistics Ship (NGLS) Program. Under this contract, Vard Marine will conduct a market survey and perform concept design
and refinement for the new NGLS platform, also known as the light replenishment oiler (T-AOL). The program aims to provide sustained refueling, resupply, and rearm capabilities using commercially available technologies. Vard Marine will collaborate with Hanwha Defense USA and Hanwha Philly Shipyard to support producibility and evaluate production costs.
Why It's Important?
The contract awarded to Vard Marine is a critical development in the U.S. Navy's efforts to modernize its logistics capabilities. The NGLS program is designed to enhance the Navy's operational efficiency by providing a smaller, more agile platform for resupply missions. This initiative reflects the Navy's strategic focus on leveraging proven technologies to maintain readiness and support forward-deployed forces. The collaboration with industry partners like Hanwha Defense USA highlights the importance of integrating commercial practices into military projects, potentially leading to cost savings and faster deployment of new capabilities.
