What's Happening?
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German government organization, has engaged consultancies Ecorys and Manafeth to support Jordan's Economic Modernisation Vision under the Innovation in Private Sector Development (I-PSD)
project. This initiative aims to strengthen Jordan's private sector by expanding exports, accelerating industrial growth, and promoting digital transformation. The project also focuses on enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and empowering women economically. Despite regional conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic, Jordan's economy has shown resilience, but challenges such as low labor demand and underrepresentation of women in the workforce persist.
Why It's Important?
The I-PSD project is crucial for addressing Jordan's economic challenges, including high unemployment rates among youth and women. By fostering innovation and technology transfer, the project aims to create a more competitive business environment and sustainable economic growth. The involvement of GIZ highlights the importance of international cooperation in supporting economic development in Jordan. The project's focus on digital transformation and SME competitiveness aligns with global trends towards technology-driven economic growth.
What's Next?
The success of the I-PSD project will depend on effective collaboration between GIZ, local consultancies, and Jordanian stakeholders. Continued support from international partners will be essential for implementing reforms and achieving the project's objectives. The focus on digital transformation and women's economic empowerment could lead to significant improvements in Jordan's economic landscape, potentially serving as a model for similar initiatives in the region.
