What's Happening?
DeepOcean, an offshore services provider, has entered into a time charter agreement with Glomar Offshore B.V. to enhance its operational capabilities in the offshore renewables and oil and gas sectors.
The agreement involves the use of the multipurpose support vessel (MPSV) Glomar Supporter, which will join DeepOcean's fleet in January 2026. The vessel, built in 2009 and refurbished in 2021, is equipped with advanced technology for survey, inspection, and light inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) markets. DeepOcean plans to mobilize its work-class ROVs aboard the vessel, with operations expected to commence in European waters in the first quarter of 2026.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of DeepOcean's capabilities through this charter agreement is significant for the offshore energy sector, particularly in the growing markets of offshore renewables and oil and gas. By utilizing the Glomar Supporter, DeepOcean aims to provide cost-effective and high-precision survey and inspection solutions, meeting increasing client demand. This move positions DeepOcean to better serve developers and operators in both traditional and low-carbon energy markets, potentially enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of offshore operations.
What's Next?
DeepOcean is set to begin operations with the Glomar Supporter in early 2026, following vessel mobilization activities. The company may also deploy additional observation-class ROVs to support broader survey and inspection campaigns. As the offshore market segments continue to grow, DeepOcean's expanded fleet and capabilities could lead to increased business opportunities and partnerships within the industry.
Beyond the Headlines
The charter agreement reflects a broader trend in the offshore energy sector towards more sustainable and efficient operations. By investing in advanced technology and versatile vessels, companies like DeepOcean are adapting to the evolving demands of the market, which increasingly prioritize environmental considerations alongside economic efficiency.
