What's Happening?
The Professional Employee Benefits Consultant (PEBC) designation has been launched to provide foundational training for early-career professionals in the insurance brokerage industry. This initiative,
developed by The Institutes Designations, targets individuals with less than two years of experience, including consultants, account managers, client service representatives, and business development associates. The program offers two learning formats: PEBC Hybrid, featuring instructor-led virtual sessions from the University of Wisconsin School of Business, and PEBC On-demand, which provides a self-paced pathway with video content, interactive exercises, and simulated exams. Corporate packages are available for firms seeking in-house training. The collaboration between The Council and The Institutes aims to address the critical need for developing and upskilling the next generation of benefits professionals.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the PEBC credential is significant for the insurance industry as it seeks to build a skilled workforce capable of advising on employer-sponsored health plans. With Council member firms currently advising on two-thirds of these plans in the U.S., the credential addresses a gap in workforce development. By equipping early-career professionals with essential skills, the program aims to enhance the quality of service provided to clients and improve career prospects for individuals entering the field. This initiative supports the industry's long-term growth by ensuring a steady pipeline of knowledgeable professionals who can navigate the complexities of employee benefits.
