What's Happening?
The Cooperative Agriculture Network (CAN) is organizing a 'Strategic Doing' session at Cal Poly Humboldt on April 18, 2026, aimed at supporting North Coast farmers. This event, following the university's Cannabis Environmental Stewardship Symposium, will
gather farmers, advocates, and industry leaders to develop actionable solutions for the agricultural community in the Emerald Triangle. The session will focus on sustainability, market access, and local resilience, emphasizing collaboration to tackle challenges faced by small farmers. The event is supported by the Cal Poly Humboldt Cannabis Studies Lab and the Resource Legacy Fund, and is open to the public.
Why It's Important?
The 'Strategic Doing' session represents a significant effort to bolster the agricultural sector in the North Coast, particularly for small-scale craft producers. By focusing on sustainability and market access, the initiative aims to preserve natural resources and expand economic opportunities, which are crucial for the region's economic health. Strengthening local networks against corporate consolidation helps maintain the unique identity of the North Coast's agricultural community. This approach not only supports local farmers but also contributes to the broader goal of sustainable agriculture and economic resilience in the face of industry challenges.
What's Next?
Following the session, participants are expected to implement the strategies developed during the event, with a focus on achieving measurable results within a year. The outcomes of this session could lead to stronger partnerships and innovative solutions that benefit the entire community. Stakeholders, including local governments and agricultural organizations, may monitor the progress and impact of these initiatives, potentially leading to further support and funding for similar collaborative efforts in the future.
