The Wooster-Wayne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is organizing an event at the Orrville Public Library on March 24 to honor two notable women from Wayne County, Ohio, as part of Women's History Month. The event will highlight the achievements
of Patricia Purdy, a retired colonel in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps, and Dr. Maria Sexton, the first Wayne County resident inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame. Purdy had a distinguished military career, serving as a surgical nurse during the Vietnam War and playing a role in the release of American hostages from Iran in 1981. After retirement, she continued her service with the Red Cross during the 9/11 attacks. Dr. Sexton was a pioneer in advocating for women's participation in high-level sports, contributing to the establishment of national championships for college women and serving on several national sports committees.
Why It's Important?

By celebrating these women, the event not only honors their individual accomplishments but also inspires future generations to pursue excellence and challenge societal norms. Such recognition is crucial in promoting gender equality and encouraging more inclusive opportunities in both military and sports sectors.
What's Next?
