The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division announced a significant recovery of $259 million in back wages for nearly 177,000 employees during the fiscal year 2025. This marks the highest recovery since 2019, averaging approximately $1,465 per
worker. Despite this achievement, the number of compliance actions concluded was slightly lower than the previous year, with just under 17,000 cases closed compared to 17,300 in 2024. The recovery efforts were particularly focused on industries identified as 'low wage, high violation' sectors, such as food services and healthcare, which saw substantial back wage recoveries of over $42 million and $53 million, respectively.
