What's Happening?
The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is celebrating National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day by waiving adoption fees on April 30. The event aims to encourage pet adoption and reduce the number of animals in shelters. Prospective adopters can visit
the Tacoma Humane Society from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to adopt dogs, cats, and other small animals. Each adopted pet will receive a wellness exam, initial vaccines, a microchip, spay or neuter surgery, and a starter bag of food. The shelter currently houses over 75 animals available for adoption.
Why It's Important?
Waiving adoption fees can significantly increase the number of adoptions, helping to alleviate overcrowding in shelters and providing homes for animals in need. This initiative not only benefits the animals but also enriches the lives of adopters by adding a pet to their family. The event highlights the importance of adopting from shelters, which can help reduce the number of animals euthanized each year due to lack of space and resources. Additionally, it raises awareness about the ongoing need for community support through donations and foster care.
