What's Happening?
The Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, in collaboration with the University of Utah, Yellowstone National Park, and the U.S. Geological Survey, has installed a new camera in Biscuit Basin. This camera, equipped with pan-tilt-zoom capabilities, is designed
to monitor hydrothermal activity in the area, particularly around Black Diamond Pool, which has a history of hydrothermal explosions. The camera captures images every 15 minutes and can record video, allowing for remote monitoring of any unusual activity. This installation follows a series of smaller eruptions and a significant explosion in 2024 that led to the closure of Biscuit Basin to visitors.
