What's Happening?
AGRA, an African-led institution based in Nairobi, Kenya, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting African governments in advancing food systems reforms. During the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture
Development Programme – Partnership Platform (CAADP-PP) in Kigali, Rwanda, AGRA emphasized the need for coordinated actions aligned with Africa's priorities. The organization collaborates with governments, the private sector, and civil society to drive agricultural transformation, aiming to strengthen systems for farmers, grow markets, and achieve food and nutrition goals. AGRA presented the 'Africa Food Systems Report 2025,' highlighting progress in supply chains, diets, and food environments. The forum focused on enabling governments to strengthen agricultural programs, advance regional trade integration, and stimulate private-sector investment.
Why It's Important?
AGRA's initiatives are crucial for addressing food security challenges in Africa, where soil degradation and limited access to resources hinder agricultural productivity. By supporting reforms and promoting regional trade integration, AGRA aims to enhance food systems and drive economic growth. The focus on youth and women as key drivers of agricultural transformation is significant, as they form the backbone of Africa's agricultural workforce. By expanding access to land, finance, and markets, AGRA seeks to empower these groups and foster inclusive growth. The organization's efforts to improve soil health and seed systems are vital for increasing resilience to climate change and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices.
