What's Happening?
Macau has appointed Chui Sai Cheong as chairman of the board of directors and Anton Tai, former Secretary for Economy and Finance, to the board of Macau International Airport Co. Ltd. (CAM). The appointments, effective immediately for a three-year term,
were made by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai under Executive Order No. 130/2026. The decree also names Zhang Yun as both a board member and chairman of the executive committee. Simon Chan, the outgoing chairman of the executive committee, will remain as a member of both the board and executive committee to ensure continuity. Andy Wu, president of the Macau Tourism Industry Association, has also been appointed to the board. These appointments are part of the legal framework governing public capital companies, with remuneration to be determined by the company’s general assembly.
Why It's Important?
The appointments to the Macau International Airport board are significant as they ensure leadership continuity and stability in the management of one of Macau's key infrastructure assets. With Anton Tai's experience in economic and financial affairs, the board is likely to benefit from his expertise in navigating economic challenges and opportunities. The inclusion of figures like Andy Wu, who is deeply involved in the tourism industry, suggests a strategic focus on enhancing Macau's connectivity and tourism appeal. This move could have broader implications for Macau's economic development, particularly in strengthening its position as a regional transport hub.
