What's Happening?
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has been awarded the Certified Autism Center designation by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This accreditation requires at least 80% of guest-facing staff to complete
autism and sensory training, equipping them with the skills to assist autistic and sensory-sensitive visitors. The tramway has also updated its website with sensory guides and a walkthrough video to help guests prepare for their visit. This initiative is part of a broader effort to make Greater Palm Springs a Certified Autism Destination, offering multiple trained and certified options for visitors.
Why It's Important?
The designation of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway as a Certified Autism Center is a significant step towards inclusivity in the tourism industry. By providing specialized training for staff and enhancing pre-arrival communication, the tramway ensures that autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals can enjoy a welcoming and supportive experience. This initiative not only broadens the tramway's appeal to a wider audience but also sets a standard for other attractions to follow. As awareness of neurodiversity grows, such efforts are crucial in creating accessible and inclusive environments for all visitors.
