What's Happening?
Diplomats from Uzbekistan's Embassy in Poland met with Lucjan Zwolak, Deputy Director General of Poland's National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), to discuss expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector. The talks included the possibility of establishing
a logistics center for Uzbekistan in Poland, aimed at enhancing trade relations between the two countries. Agreements were reached to allocate one of KOWR's buildings for the logistics center, develop project proposals during a working group visit from Uzbekistan, and engage Uzbek workers or students in seasonal work at Polish agricultural companies. Additionally, Polish companies are expected to participate in the UzFood 2026 exhibition in Tashkent, while Uzbek enterprises will join the AGROTECH and POLAGRA exhibitions in Poland. The meeting highlighted the growing export-import ties, with Poland exporting €72 million worth of agricultural products to Uzbekistan in 2024, and imports from Uzbekistan amounting to €10 million.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of a logistics hub in Poland could significantly enhance Uzbekistan's agricultural trade capabilities, facilitating easier access to European markets. This move is likely to strengthen bilateral trade relations, potentially tripling the current trade figures. For Uzbekistan, this development represents an opportunity to diversify its export markets and increase its agricultural product exports. For Poland, it offers a chance to deepen economic ties with Central Asia, potentially leading to increased investment and collaboration in the agricultural sector. The involvement of Uzbek workers and students in Polish agriculture could also foster cultural exchange and skill development, benefiting both nations.
What's Next?
The next steps involve the development of project proposals during a working group visit from Uzbekistan to Poland. This visit will likely focus on logistical and operational details necessary for establishing the hub. Both countries are expected to continue their collaboration through participation in international exhibitions, which will serve as platforms for showcasing agricultural products and technologies. The success of these initiatives could lead to further agreements and partnerships, enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Poland.
