What's Happening?
Diplomats from Uzbekistan's Embassy in Poland recently met with Lucjan Zwolak, Deputy Director General of Poland's National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), to explore expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector. The discussions included the potential
establishment of an Uzbekistan logistics hub in Poland. This initiative aims to enhance trade relations by allocating one of two KOWR-owned buildings on the border of the Masovian and Łódź voivodeships for this purpose. The meeting also resulted in agreements to develop project proposals during a working group visit from Uzbekistan to Poland, engage Uzbek workers or students in seasonal agricultural work, and ensure participation in international exhibitions such as UzFood 2026 in Tashkent and AGROTECH 2026 in Kielce. The talks highlighted the growing export-import ties between the two countries, with Poland exporting €72 million worth of agricultural products to Uzbekistan in 2024, while imports from Uzbekistan amounted to €10 million.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of a logistics hub in Poland could significantly enhance Uzbekistan's agricultural trade capabilities, providing a strategic foothold in Europe. This development is crucial for Uzbekistan as it seeks to diversify its trade partners and increase its agricultural exports. For Poland, the collaboration offers an opportunity to strengthen its agricultural sector by accessing new markets and labor resources. The potential tripling of trade figures underscores the economic benefits for both nations. This initiative aligns with Uzbekistan's broader economic goals, including its aim to join the World Trade Organization by 2026, and reflects a strategic move to integrate more deeply into global trade networks.
What's Next?
The next steps involve a working group from Uzbekistan visiting Poland to develop detailed project proposals for the logistics hub. This visit will likely focus on logistical planning, resource allocation, and establishing operational frameworks. Both countries are expected to continue their dialogue to finalize agreements and ensure the successful implementation of the logistics hub. Additionally, the participation of Polish and Uzbek companies in upcoming international exhibitions will further solidify trade relations and provide platforms for showcasing agricultural products and innovations.
