A survey conducted by Cancer Research UK has found that one-third of patients do not seek medical help within six months of noticing potential 'red-flag' cancer symptoms. The survey, which included responses from nearly 7,000 UK adults, identified several
reasons for this delay. Key factors included the perception that making a GP appointment would be difficult, with 53% of respondents citing this concern, and 47% finding it actually difficult to secure an appointment. Additionally, 43% of participants chose to manage symptoms themselves. Red-flag symptoms highlighted in the survey include changes in moles, unexplained lumps, weight loss without trying, and coughing up blood. In response, Cancer Research UK and Tesco Pharmacy have partnered to provide specialist training to Tesco pharmacists, enabling them to support customers in recognizing and acting on these symptoms.
