Researchers from the University of Reading and the University of Leeds have conducted a study to improve the detection of AI-generated faces. The study involved 664 volunteers, including super-recognizers
and individuals with typical face-recognition abilities. Participants underwent a brief 5-minute training session designed to help them identify AI-generated faces. The training focused on recognizing tell-tale signs such as missing teeth and blurring around the edges of hair and skin. Results showed that super-recognizers improved their accuracy from 41% to 64% after training, while those with typical abilities increased their accuracy to 51%. The study highlights the growing challenge of distinguishing AI-generated images, which are increasingly used in media and identity-theft scams.
