Self-service kiosks at Iceland's Keflavík International Airport, installed in October, have not yet been activated due to operational failures during testing. These kiosks were intended to expedite the processing of non-European arrivals by recording
biometric data, thereby reducing the workload on border guards. However, the machines did not perform reliably, leading authorities to delay their implementation, especially during the busy summer travel season. Bjarni Ólafur Ólafsson, a police officer with the Suðurnes Police, noted that queues often form during peak arrival times, particularly when flights from the United States and Canada land. Currently, European passengers are processed through automated gates, while non-European travelers must be processed manually by border officers. The police plan to gradually introduce the kiosks starting mid-August.
