The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has entered into a strategic partnership with Zhejiang Lvdong Alcohol Hydrogen Technology Service Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group. This collaboration aims
to enhance the use of methanol as a low-carbon energy source in Hong Kong. The partnership will focus on developing a methanol fuel supply system, establishing methanol refueling infrastructure, and promoting methanol-powered commercial vehicles. This initiative aligns with Hong Kong's commitment to the National 15th Five-Year Plan, which prioritizes energy transition. Methanol is considered a promising alternative due to its lower emissions compared to diesel, making it suitable for heavy-duty vehicles and temporary power generation at construction sites.

VENEX, a Towngas joint venture, is expanding its green methanol production capacity, with a new manufacturing base under construction in Foshan. The combined annual output of these facilities is projected to reach 500,000 tonnes by 2028, with a long-term target of 1 million tonnes. This expansion will ensure a steady supply of green fuel, supporting the city's carbon neutrality goals.
