What's Happening?
The Forest Preserve District of Will County is organizing a series of outdoor activities in the Naperville area for Father's Day weekend. These activities include a 'Kayak Kollege' course at Whalon Lake,
where American Canoe Association-certified instructors will teach kayaking basics, safety, and paddling techniques. The course is open to individuals aged 12 and older, with a registration fee of $35. Additionally, Hidden Lakes Trout Farm will host several fishing events, offering free fishing without a license from June 19-21, sponsored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Participants can borrow fishing poles and receive free nightcrawlers and promotional items. A 'Fishing Under the Stars' event is also scheduled for June 20, providing a family-friendly environment for all ages.
Why It's Important?
These events provide an opportunity for families and individuals to engage in outdoor recreational activities, promoting physical health and community engagement. By offering free fishing and kayaking lessons, the Forest Preserve District encourages residents to explore local natural resources and develop new skills. Such initiatives can enhance community well-being and foster a greater appreciation for environmental conservation. Additionally, these activities support local tourism and economic activity by attracting visitors to the area.
What's Next?
Participants interested in the kayaking course must register by June 17. The Forest Preserve District will continue to promote these events through local channels to maximize community participation. Future events may be planned based on the success and feedback from this weekend's activities, potentially expanding the range of outdoor programs offered in the region.
