The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) recently held its 27th annual invitational event, celebrating the tradition of plein air painting, which involves creating art outdoors. This year's event, held from
October 4-12, saw artist Jason Li make history by winning the 'Best in Show' award with his watercolor painting 'Catching Sunset,' marking the first time a watercolor piece has won the top prize. Li's work, depicting Balboa Bay in Newport Beach, was also notable for being the first non-Laguna Beach landscape to win. The invitational featured 30 artists from 10 states and two countries, showcasing diverse styles and techniques. Other notable winners included Kathleen B. Hudson and Carl Bretzke, who received awards for their exceptional contributions.
