What's Happening?
Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC) has received a $41,000 grant from the West Penn Energy Fund to launch a program using virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) tools to teach renewable energy and energy efficiency. The initiative will be implemented in Cameron, Elk, McKean, and Potter counties, targeting middle and high school students as well as adults seeking career retraining. The program aims to build a skilled workforce in the renewable energy sector, which is experiencing job growth. Participants will engage in monthly sessions using zSpace, an ed-tech platform that facilitates VR and AR lessons in STEM and career education.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of VR and AR tools in energy education represents a significant step towards modernizing educational approaches and preparing students for careers in the growing renewable energy sector. This initiative not only addresses the need for skilled workers in clean energy but also provides innovative learning experiences that can attract employers to the region. By equipping students with technical skills and knowledge in energy-related fields, NPRC is contributing to workforce development and economic growth in northern Pennsylvania. The program also highlights the potential of VR and AR technologies in enhancing educational outcomes and engaging students in hands-on learning.
