What's Happening?
DeTect, a company specializing in unmanned aerial systems (UAS) detection, deployed its DroneWatcher system during the Gulf Coast Salute Air Show to enhance airspace safety. The initiative, in collaboration with local agencies such as the Bay County Sheriff’s
Office and Panama City Beach Police, aimed to ensure the safety of beach patrons, law enforcement, and pilots. The DroneWatcher system integrates radar, radio frequency sensing, and multi-spectral imaging technologies to provide comprehensive airspace monitoring. The setup included a 7360 True3D radar, a multi-spectral camera, and a BlueHalo Titan SV, all stationed at Pier Park. This configuration allowed for the detection of a wide range of radio frequency signatures and tracking of both commercial and tactical transmitters. Additionally, the system featured a Remote ID receiving center and an ADS-B receiver to identify compliant aircraft, with all data managed through the DroneWatcher Hub.
Why It's Important?
The deployment of DeTect's DroneWatcher system at the Gulf Coast Salute Air Show underscores the growing importance of airspace security, particularly in events involving large crowds and aircraft. By integrating advanced detection technologies, the system enhances situational awareness and safety, mitigating risks associated with unauthorized drone activities. This initiative reflects a broader trend in the U.S. towards adopting sophisticated airspace management solutions to protect public safety and ensure the smooth operation of events. The collaboration with local law enforcement and safety departments highlights the critical role of technology in supporting public safety efforts and the potential for similar systems to be implemented in other high-profile events across the country.
What's Next?
Following the successful deployment at the Gulf Coast Salute Air Show, there may be increased interest in utilizing DeTect's DroneWatcher system for other large-scale events. Local governments and event organizers could consider adopting similar technologies to enhance airspace security and public safety. The effectiveness of the system in detecting and managing airspace threats could lead to further collaborations between DeTect and law enforcement agencies. Additionally, advancements in UAS detection technology may continue to evolve, offering even more robust solutions for airspace management in the future.
