What's Happening?
UN Women has initiated the WE-Collabo Hub Project in Rwanda, aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. This project is part of a broader effort
to address the structural and systemic challenges faced by women-owned enterprises, such as limited access to finance, business development services, and market information. The initiative seeks to enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem by providing women with skills in business management, financial literacy, and digital capabilities. The project will support 30 women entrepreneurs from high-growth sectors, equipping them with the tools needed to build resilient and competitive businesses.
Why It's Important?
The WE-Collabo Hub Project is significant as it addresses the persistent barriers that hinder the productivity and competitiveness of women-owned businesses in Rwanda. By focusing on sectors like agribusiness, health technology, and digital entrepreneurship, the project not only aims to empower individual entrepreneurs but also contributes to Rwanda's broader economic development goals. This initiative aligns with UN Women's mission to promote gender equality and women's economic empowerment, which are crucial for achieving inclusive economic growth and the Sustainable Development Goals.
What's Next?
The project will involve a comprehensive entrepreneurship capacity building training, designed to strengthen the business acumen of the participating women entrepreneurs. UN Women plans to engage a qualified facilitator to deliver this training, which will include modules on business planning, financial management, and digital transformation. The outcomes of this pilot initiative are expected to inform the development of a scalable model for women-centered entrepreneurship hubs across Rwanda, potentially influencing future policy and programming on women's economic empowerment.
