What's Happening?
A new agricultural produce collection center, including a cold storage facility, has been inaugurated in Kolti, Bajura, within Budhiganga Municipality. The center aims to facilitate the sale of vegetables and fruits produced by local farmers, even during
off-seasons. Santosh Kumar Sah, the acting chief administrative officer, stated that the center was established to alleviate the difficulties faced by farmers who previously had to sell their produce individually to hotels and shops. The facility was constructed through a financial partnership between the municipality and GIZ, with a joint investment of over 6.8 million rupees. Mayor Janak Kumar Bohara noted that the center will store various crops, including potatoes, apples, and oranges, allowing for distribution at other times. The facility was inaugurated by Bir Bahadur Thapa, Minister of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Sudurpashchim Province.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of the agricultural produce collection center and cold storage facility in Bajura represents a significant step towards improving the livelihoods of local farmers. By providing a centralized location for storing and selling produce, the facility helps reduce post-harvest losses and ensures that farmers can access markets more efficiently. This initiative supports agricultural development in the region, potentially increasing income for farmers and contributing to food security. The collaboration between the municipality and GIZ highlights the importance of partnerships in addressing local challenges and fostering sustainable development. The facility's impact may encourage similar projects in other regions, promoting agricultural growth and economic stability.
