UN Women, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Agriculture Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), organized an event titled 'Seeds of Change: Women Shaping Agriculture in KP – Empowering Farmers, Enriching Communities,
Transforming Futures.' Held at the Directorate General of Agriculture Research in Peshawar, the event aimed to celebrate and strengthen the role of women farmers in advancing sustainable agriculture, enhancing food security, and promoting gender equality in rural communities. Key speakers, including Dr. Sumera Shams, Chairperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women, and Zainab Qaiser Khan, Head of Sub-Office, UN Women Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasized the importance of inclusive growth and the resilience of women farmers. The event featured panel discussions on gender-inclusive agricultural policies and showcased agricultural produce by women farmers.

The initiative is significant as it addresses the challenges faced by women in agriculture, such as limited access to resources, market exclusion, and vulnerability to climate shocks. By empowering women farmers through training, financial inclusion, and market access, the program aims to improve livelihoods and ensure food security in rural areas. The event marked a milestone achievement with women farmers qualifying for Akhuwat microfinance interest-free loans after completing financial literacy and business planning training. These women were awarded cheques to expand their agricultural enterprises, advancing women's financial inclusion in rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government and collaborating organizations are expected to continue supporting women farmers by providing access to training, credit, and markets, fostering an equitable and resilient agricultural future where women are leaders.
