What's Happening?
The Petoskey District Library has expanded its BiblioBag delivery program to serve all residents of Emmet County. Initially launched in January 2022, the service was originally available only to residents within the Petoskey District Library's service area,
which includes the city of Petoskey and several townships. The program provides homebound residents with free delivery of library materials such as books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. This expansion was made possible through funding from Emmet County's senior millage, which has provided financial support over the years. The BiblioBag program aims to eliminate transportation barriers and maintain the joy and independence associated with accessing library materials.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of the BiblioBag service is significant as it enhances access to library resources for homebound individuals across Emmet County. By providing free delivery of library materials, the program supports the intellectual and recreational needs of residents who may otherwise face challenges in accessing these resources. This initiative not only promotes literacy and lifelong learning but also fosters a sense of community inclusion and dignity for those who are unable to visit the library in person. The program's success could serve as a model for other regions looking to improve library access for homebound populations.
What's Next?
As the BiblioBag service continues to grow, the Petoskey District Library and its partners will likely monitor the program's impact and seek additional funding to sustain and potentially expand the service further. Community feedback will be crucial in shaping the future of the program, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of its users. Libraries involved in the program may also explore partnerships with other community organizations to enhance service delivery and outreach efforts.
