What's Happening?
UPL has announced the launch of its global campaign, '#AFarmerCan', in anticipation of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) scheduled to take place from November 10-21, 2025, in Belém,
Brazil. The campaign aims to highlight the critical role farmers play in climate resilience and urges global leaders to recognize their contributions to climate mitigation. UPL, operating in over 140 countries, collaborates with both smallholder and commercial farmers to provide agricultural solutions that align with climate and food security priorities. The campaign features 20 stories from farmers worldwide, showcasing initiatives that support greenhouse gas reduction, energy security, water conservation, soil health restoration, and biodiversity protection. UPL's participation at COP30 will include policy outreach and a four-part framework to support farmer resilience, focusing on incentives, risk reduction, market access, and digital tools.
Why It's Important?
The '#AFarmerCan' campaign underscores the importance of farmers in the global effort to combat climate change. By advocating for policies and incentives that support climate-smart agricultural practices, UPL aims to empower farmers to contribute significantly to climate solutions. This initiative could lead to increased recognition of farmers' contributions to sustainable food systems and climate resilience, potentially influencing public policy and consumer awareness. The campaign's focus on practical solutions, such as carbon-smart coffee and low methane rice initiatives, highlights agriculture's potential to reduce CO2 emissions and enhance environmental sustainability.
What's Next?
During COP30, UPL will actively engage in discussions and presentations in the Blue Zone, the area designated for official negotiations and national pavilions. The company plans to serve carbon-smart coffee and host panel discussions at the AgriZone by Embrapa, showcasing its climate engagement pillars and case studies. UPL's campaign will be promoted through various channels, including airport placements, public transport branding, and digital communication, aiming to reach a broad audience and foster support for farmers' climate action efforts.
Beyond the Headlines
The '#AFarmerCan' campaign not only highlights the immediate contributions of farmers to climate action but also raises awareness about the long-term benefits of sustainable agricultural practices. By promoting digital tools and access to soil data, UPL is advocating for technological advancements that can enhance farmers' ability to adapt to climate challenges. This approach may lead to a cultural shift in how society views the role of agriculture in environmental sustainability, potentially influencing future policy decisions and consumer behavior.
