India is set to make significant strides in its semiconductor industry with the announcement that four companies will commence commercial manufacturing of semiconductor chips in 2026. Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, revealed that Micron,
CG Power, Kaynes Technology, and Tata Electronics are the companies involved in this initiative. This development is part of India's broader strategy to achieve self-reliance in critical technology sectors. The companies have already begun pilot production, with Tata's plant in Assam expected to start by mid-2026. The initiative has attracted considerable interest from major semiconductor-producing nations such as Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. The government has also approved 10 semiconductor manufacturing projects across six states, with a total investment exceeding Rs 1.60 lakh crore.
