What's Happening?
A team of recent graduates from the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico has developed an innovative agrivoltaic system called SolarRoot. This system integrates photovoltaic modules with rainwater harvesting and smart irrigation to optimize both
electricity generation and agricultural productivity. The system uses soil moisture sensors to efficiently manage water supply to crops, aiming to reduce heat stress and water loss. SolarRoot recently won first place in the Invent for the Planet competition, organized by Texas A&M University, and will advance to the next stage in Qatar.
