What's Happening?
The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) has awarded a grant to the Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority to fund a Small Developer Workshop. The initiative aims to enhance workforce housing capacity in Southwest Virginia by
training local leaders in housing policy and development. The workshop will be held at Mountain Empire Community College and Southwest Virginia Community College, targeting public officials and employees. The project seeks to address housing shortages and support small-scale development, contributing to regional economic diversification.
Why It's Important?
The grant represents a strategic effort to tackle workforce housing shortages, a critical barrier to economic growth in Southwest Virginia. By equipping local leaders with practical tools and knowledge, the initiative aims to streamline housing development processes and improve policy frameworks. This could lead to increased availability of affordable housing, attracting and retaining a skilled workforce essential for regional economic expansion. The workshop is part of a broader effort to diversify the economy and support sustainable community development.
