What's Happening?
PostBus, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, has partnered with Baidu's Apollo Go to launch the AmiGo on-demand autonomous mobility service in Switzerland. The service will deploy Level 4 autonomous vehicles in eastern
Switzerland, covering the cantons of St Gallen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, and Appenzell Innerrhoden. Regular operations are planned for the first quarter of 2027. The service is designed to complement Switzerland's existing public transport system, with PostBus serving as the local partner and service operator.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration supports Switzerland's national initiative to integrate autonomous vehicles into its transportation network. It represents a significant step towards enhancing smart mobility and reducing reliance on traditional transportation methods. The partnership leverages Baidu's expertise in autonomous vehicle technology and operational experience, contributing to Switzerland's reputation for innovation. The service aims to provide flexible and digital mobility solutions, aligning with customer needs.
What's Next?
Initial trial fleet testing will begin in December 2025, with phased expansion through 2026 leading to regular service launch. Customers will be able to book autonomous vehicles through a mobile app for private or carpool trips. Driverless trials are expected to commence later in 2026. The partnership plans to gradually expand the fleet and bring autonomous mobility services to additional Swiss cities and communities.

The introduction of autonomous vehicles raises ethical and legal questions regarding safety, liability, and data privacy. The technology could lead to shifts in employment within the transportation sector, as traditional driving roles may become obsolete.
