A study conducted by a research team from the Catholic University of Korea, led by Professor Bae Woong-jin and Professor Lee Dong-seop, has found that deficiencies in testosterone and vitamin D are independent risk factors for reduced hip bone mineral
density in aging men. The research, which analyzed data from 557 men aged 60 and older, revealed that men with testosterone deficiency (below 3.5 ng/mL) had approximately 1.9 times higher risk of reduced hip bone mineral density, while those with insufficient vitamin D (below 30 ng/mL) faced about 1.6 times higher risk. The study also highlighted an interaction between these two factors, indicating that when vitamin D levels drop in a state of testosterone deficiency, calcium absorption efficiency sharply decreases, accelerating bone loss. This research provides scientific evidence supporting combined testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and vitamin D treatment to improve bone metabolism in aging males, expanding treatment options for osteoporosis tailored to men.
