Vietnam's Binh Son oil refinery is set to receive 1 million barrels of West Texas Intermediate crude in January, marking its second purchase from the United States in three months. This move is part of Vietnam's strategy to increase imports of U.S. goods,
including crude oil, liquefied natural gas, farm produce, and aircraft, in an effort to narrow the trade gap between the two countries. The decision follows President Trump's threat in April to impose tariffs on Vietnamese products. The refinery has been operating at 120% of its designed capacity this year and plans to increase this to 123%-125% next year. The recent purchase was facilitated by Swiss trader Mercuria, with delivery scheduled for January 7-11.
