What's Happening?
California State University, Chico marked Earth Day by opening its university farm for tours that focused on regenerative agriculture. The tours, led by student ambassadors, showcased the farm as a 'living laboratory' for students and a hub for research
in sustainable farming practices. The university's Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems, established in 2019, has impacted over 120 farms across 35,000 acres by promoting climate-smart farming methods. Visitors observed practices like organic, regenerative dairy systems and research comparing conventional and regenerative crop production.
Why It's Important?
The Earth Day event at Chico State underscores the growing importance of regenerative agriculture in building resilient food systems. By focusing on improving soil health and reducing inputs, these practices can lower costs for farmers while maintaining productivity. The university's efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture not only benefit the environment but also enhance public health by producing more nutrient-dense food. This initiative serves as an educational platform for students and the community, highlighting the potential of regenerative practices to transform the agricultural industry.
