What's Happening?
FCM Travel has issued an advisory for Australian corporate travelers regarding changes in European border management, focusing on the 90-day short-stay rule, the Entry/Exit System (EES), and the upcoming ETIAS pre-travel authorization. The advisory consolidates
data from the European Commission and other official sources to help travel managers navigate these changes. Australian travelers remain visa-exempt for short stays up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the Schengen Area. The EES, operational since October 2025, will be fully implemented by April 2026, requiring travelers to undergo biometric data capture upon entry. The ETIAS is expected to start in late 2026, with a transitional grace period.
Why It's Important?
The advisory is crucial for Australian business travelers to Europe, as it helps them avoid potential travel disruptions by understanding and complying with new border management rules. The changes, particularly the EES and ETIAS, represent a significant shift in how travelers will enter and exit the Schengen Area, emphasizing the need for accurate planning and compliance. By providing clear guidance, FCM Travel aims to prevent itinerary disruptions and ensure smooth travel experiences. This is particularly important for corporate travelers who rely on efficient travel arrangements to conduct business effectively.
