What's Happening?
Wärtsilä Energy Storage has introduced GEMS Pulse, a new software solution designed to enhance the performance of battery energy storage systems (BESS). GEMS Pulse provides predictive analytics, anomaly
detection, and scenario simulation to help operators maximize uptime and reclaim unused capacity. The software aims to transform complex battery data into actionable insights, allowing operators to unlock up to 20% of previously unused battery capacity. This is achieved by providing accurate measurements of key parameters such as state of charge and state of health, enabling operators to utilize more of their battery capacity with confidence.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of GEMS Pulse is significant for the energy storage industry as it addresses common challenges faced by BESS operators, such as underutilization of capacity and financial losses due to measurement inaccuracies. By improving the accuracy of battery data and enabling better decision-making, GEMS Pulse can enhance the financial performance of energy storage projects. This is particularly important as the demand for reliable and efficient energy storage solutions continues to grow, driven by the increasing integration of renewable energy sources and the need for grid stability.
What's Next?
GEMS Pulse is already being utilized by Wärtsilä’s energy performance services team to optimize over 9 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity globally. As the software continues to demonstrate its effectiveness, it is likely to see wider adoption among BESS operators seeking to improve their systems' performance and financial returns. The ongoing development of AI-driven analytics and anomaly detection capabilities within GEMS Pulse may further enhance its value proposition, making it a critical tool for the future of energy storage management.
