Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has signed a self-financed ship procurement deal to acquire two modern bulk carriers, marking a historic milestone in the country's maritime sector. According to Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Rtd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, this is the first time BSC is purchasing ships using its own funds. The new vessels, built under German license in China, are environmentally friendly and energy-efficient, meeting the latest International Maritime Organization standards. This initiative is expected to increase BSC's annual income by Tk 150 crore and expand its transport capacity by 120,000 DWT.
