Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the renovated Terminal 2 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The terminal, which had been closed since April for extensive renovations,
will resume operations on October 26. The upgrades include a self-baggage drop system, new passenger boarding bridges equipped with autonomous docking technology, and the DigiYatra service for facial recognition to expedite security checks. The terminal now has an annual capacity to handle 15 million passengers, contributing to the airport's total capacity of over 100 million passengers annually.
Why It's Important?
The renovation of Terminal 2 is significant as it enhances the efficiency and capacity of one of India's busiest airports. The introduction of advanced technologies like self-baggage drop and facial recognition systems aims to streamline passenger flow and reduce wait times, improving overall customer satisfaction. This development is crucial for accommodating the growing number of air travelers in India and supporting the country's aviation industry, which is expected to see continued growth. The upgrades also position the airport as a modern hub capable of handling increased international traffic.
