A new study published in JAMA Pediatrics reveals a significant increase in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among children over the past two decades. The research analyzed over 100,000 bacterial isolates from children worldwide, finding that more than a third
were resistant to at least one first-line antibiotic, and one in five were resistant to second-line antibiotics. The study highlights that AMR is particularly high in intensive care units and among the youngest children with severe infections.
