The Art Institute of Chicago has acquired its first work by the renowned American illustrator Norman Rockwell, titled 'The Dugout'. This 1948 painting depicts Chicago Cubs players in a moment of dejection following a game against the Boston Braves. The acquisition
was made possible through a donation by former Illinois governor Bruce Rauner and his wife, Diana Rauner. The painting is now displayed alongside other iconic works in the museum. Sarah Kelly Oehler, the museum's chair and curator of the arts of the Americas, expressed excitement about showcasing Rockwell's work, which captures quintessential American themes, including baseball.
