The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, successfully recovered a Cesium-137 (Cs-137) radioactive source in Midland County. The recovery operation was initiated after a DPS Corporal detected
radiation using a vehicle-mounted system. The source was found approximately 6 to 8 inches below the ground. The operation involved multiple agencies, including the FBI and the Texas Department of State Health Services, and was conducted with strict safety protocols to ensure no public threat. The recovered source was a 100-millicurie sealed radioactive item manufactured in 1967.
