Johnson College has revamped its continuing education department, introducing the Workforce Advancement & Value-Added Education (WAVE) program. This initiative aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills to fill in-demand job positions in the region.
The WAVE program allows individuals to enroll in career-focused training at any time and complete programs online. Johnson College currently offers 13 career-focused training courses, including electronic health records, medical billing and coding, professional bookkeeping with QuickBooks, and sales representative roles. These courses are designed to provide learners with practical skills and industry-recognized certifications that align with their professional goals. Ashley Bechaver, director of WAVE, stated that the programs have been updated to meet regional employment demands and address workforce gaps identified by local employers.

The college will also continue its collaboration with CareerLink to identify eligible individuals for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-approved training, helping them secure funding and certification. The institution of the online programming system in July has already generated significant interest, suggesting a potential for expansion beyond the immediate region. The focus will remain on providing practical, employment-oriented skills that lead to industry-recognized certifications, thereby continuously strengthening the regional workforce.
