What's Happening?
A 45-year-old man was arrested after being found hiding inside a Pasadena Best Buy store before it opened. The incident occurred on the same day as a Pokémon card release, drawing a crowd of fans outside the store. Surveillance footage showed the man,
identified as Patrick Keys, a known transient, walking around the closed store. Police believe Keys entered during store hours and hid until closing. He consumed snacks and drinks, and was seen handling AirPods, though it is unclear if theft was intended. Keys was arrested on suspicion of burglary. The police do not believe his presence was related to the Pokémon card release.
Why It's Important?
This incident highlights security challenges faced by retail stores, especially during high-demand product releases. The ability of an individual to hide in a store undetected raises concerns about store security protocols and the potential for theft or other criminal activities. For businesses, ensuring the safety of their premises and inventory is crucial, particularly when events attract large crowds. This situation also underscores the need for effective surveillance and security measures to prevent similar occurrences, which could lead to financial losses and damage to a store's reputation.
