What's Happening?
The Lewistown Rotary Club recently recognized two high school seniors, Ava Baker from Mifflin County High School and Elaina Peachey from Mifflin County Christian Academy, with the Service Above Self Award.
This annual award is given to students who exemplify the Rotary Club's values of community service and selflessness. Both students have been actively involved in various community service activities. Baker has volunteered at the LUMINA Center and sent greeting cards to nursing homes, while Peachey has engaged in mentoring, promoting the Kiwanis Club, and working with local churches. Each recipient also received a monetary contribution to assist with school expenses.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of these students highlights the importance of community service and the impact young individuals can have on their communities. By honoring students who dedicate their time to helping others, the Rotary Club encourages a culture of service and civic responsibility among youth. This not only benefits the immediate community but also fosters a generation of leaders who prioritize giving back. The awards also provide financial support for the students' educational pursuits, further enabling them to contribute positively to society in the future.
