What's Happening?
Hadlow Rural Community School in Kent is employing classical music to soothe its animals during the fireworks season. The school, which includes land-based studies in its curriculum, houses various animals such
as goats, ducks, and alpacas. The initiative is part of the RSPCA's Kind Sparks campaign, aimed at protecting animals from the stress caused by fireworks. The school plays Classic FM's Pet show to help keep the animals calm, a practice first implemented during the lambing season earlier this year.
Why It's Important?
The use of classical music to calm animals during fireworks season highlights innovative approaches to animal welfare. Fireworks can cause significant stress to animals, leading to health issues and behavioral changes. By adopting this method, the school sets an example for other institutions and pet owners on how to mitigate the impact of fireworks on animals. This initiative also underscores the importance of considering animal welfare in community celebrations and events.
