The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways in Fiji has distributed farming tools valued at $16,252 to 36 kava farmers in Soa Village, Ra. This initiative is part of the Commercial Agriculture Development
Programme (CADP) aimed at enhancing the productivity and management of kava crops. The equipment provided includes machinery for land preparation and harvesting, which is expected to help farmers increase their output to meet the rising demand in both domestic and export markets. Minister Tomasi Tunabuna highlighted the government's commitment to strengthening the kava sector and supporting farmers in transitioning from subsistence to commercial agribusiness. The farmers, organized into five groups with 23,000 existing kava plants, plan to expand their farms and improve the quality of their produce. Local farmer Paula Makubuna expressed gratitude for the support, noting the positive impact on the community and the renewed hope it brings.
