What's Happening?
Delaware State University (DSU) recently hosted its 18th Annual Summer Research Symposium on July 31, bringing together nearly 150 student researchers from various academic levels. The symposium showcased
the culmination of four to ten weeks of intensive research conducted by undergraduate, high school, and middle school students, who worked alongside DSU faculty, graduate students, and research scientists. These students participated in federal, state, or university-funded programs designed to foster scientific talent and promote early exposure to research. Over 135 student presenters displayed 128 posters across the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center, with DSU students making up a significant portion of the undergraduate presenters. Other institutions, including the University of Delaware and several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) like Coppin State University and Spelman College, were also represented. High schools from across Delaware, such as MOT Charter School and Appoquinimink High School, also had strong participation. The event included a competitive element, with prizes awarded for the best poster presentations across middle school, high school, and undergraduate divisions, further categorized by disciplinary areas like Agriculture/Natural Resources, Mathematics/Data Science/Physics, and Chemistry/Cell Biology/Neuroscience.
