The FBI successfully prevented a potential school massacre in Argentina after alerting local law enforcement about a 15-year-old boy who used ChatGPT to plan an attack. According to Quilmes prosecutor Alejandro de Mena, the FBI contacted Argentine authorities
on August 15 after detecting multiple instances of the teen using the artificial intelligence chatbot to map out a school attack. The boy initially intended to carry out the massacre in 2027 but later sought information from ChatGPT to accelerate the timeline to the current month. FBI agents stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires filed a report with Interpol and the Argentina Federal Police, prompting an investigation. Argentine authorities subsequently obtained a search warrant, raided the boy's home, and confiscated two cell phones and a mask. De Mena noted that no firearms were recovered during the search, and due to the boy's minor status, he cannot be tried in court and has not yet been interrogated. The Attorney General’s Office is analyzing the content on his mobile devices to determine if any third parties were involved.
